Where are we? St Combs is a 19th century fishing village situated right on the edge of the Aberdeenshire coast. It is four miles south of the town of Fraserburgh and approximately 43 miles north of Aberdeen. The village sits on a stretch of golden sands stretching nearly eight miles south to Rattray Head. |
Who are we? Initially St Combs was established to provide a fishing port for the fisher families who inhabited the area. Some of these families came from the deserted community of Boatlea which became stranded when the sea water access to Strathbeg became land locked during a massive storm. By far the most common name in St Combs is Buchan. |
What do we do? The population of St Combs numbers approximately 850. Many are employed in nearby Fraserburgh and a significant number are employed in the oil and gas industry both onshore and offshore. The local primary school has a roll of approximately 90 and there are several local organisations including WRI, playgroup, youth club, football teams and line dancing. |
